Most recently we have all been enjoying broccoli sprouts as a meal topper, in salads and even in our veggie blends.
Why Broccoli Sprouts?
While its true that the precursor to Sulforaphane, Glucoraphanin is present in all kinds of cruciferous vegetables from cabbage to kohlrabi, young sprouted broccoli seeds contain up to 100 times more Sulforaphane compared to mature broccoli florets.
Sprouts contain up to 100x more sulforaphane potential than broccoli. Sulforaphane “…has been shown to promote:
- detoxification,
- prevents and combats cancer,
- lowers cholesterol,
- improves diabetes,
- can boost the immune system,
- is antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal,
- combats inflammation,
- protect skin, eyes, kidneys, and brain

- Rinse twice daily for 3 to 5 days 6. Once ready, rinse out properly and enjoy.
HOW MUCH SHOULD YOUR DOG EAT: An ounce of broccoli sprouts contains about 73mg of sulforaphane.
An ounce would be about half a cup, so your dog would need anywhere from a pinch to a half cup to get a good amount of sulforaphane.
Gucho & Raven get a tablespoon finely chopped added into their meals. Extra sprouts are stored in the fridge or sometimes blended in with our veggie blends.
Anti-Cancer Potential
Sulforaphane, an isothiocyanate derived from glucoraphanin present in broccoli sprouts, has been an area of interest in anticancer research in recent years. Studies suggest that this component exhibits chemopreventive potential against certain types of cancer such as skin, breast, and prostate, as well as melanoma, and stomach tumors.
A 2018 animal study published in the Cancer Prevention Research observed that inclusion of prenatal diet of broccoli sprouts was more beneficial in inhibiting the development of breast cancer as compared to postnatal or adulthood diet.
